      <image:title>SERVICES - Electromyography (EMG)</image:title>
<image:caption>Depending on the nature and severity of your problem, it may be necessary to record the naturally occurring electrical activity within your muscles. This is done with a fine pin electrode inserted into the muscle. The small size of the pin means that it should not be too uncomfortable. This pin can sometimes leave a small bruise and the muscles may feel sore for a while after the test. You can apply an ice pack for 20 minutes as needed. There should be no other side effects. If there is persistent pain and swelling for 24 hours, you may call Dr. Jones during office hours at 804.476.2488.</image:caption>

      <image:title>SERVICES - Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)</image:title>
<image:caption>These are tests of the nerves in the hand, arms, legs, and occasionally elsewhere in the body. The studies pass small electrical currents through the skin and make recordings of the natural electrical signals further down the nerve or over a muscle. This is usually done with pads attached to the skin. Needles are not usually used. The electrical pulses produce a strange tingling sensation which can be uncomfortable, but should not be painful. Your muscles may have brief twitches when stimulated. There are no after effects. Once the test is over, you will be able to go home or back to work/school. Please inform the doctor if you have a pacemaker or defibrillator.</image:caption>
